Solving Orthopaedic Clinical Challenges through Computational Biomechanics and Mechanotransduction Approach

December 20, 2017

A technical seminar on “Solving Orthopaedic Clinical Challenges through Computational Biomechanics and Mechanotransduction Approach” was organized at 2 pm, Wednesday, 20th December 2017 in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, BUET. The talk was presented by Mr. Tanvir Mustafy, Ph.D. Candidate, Department of Mechanical Engineering, École Polytechnique de Montréal, Montreal, Québec, Canada. Mr. Mustafy’s field of research is orthopedic biomechanics with a particular interest in Human Spine Modeling and mechanical regulation of growth and development of bone tissues for the orthopedic treatment of progressive musculoskeletal pathologies affecting infants and adolescents. In the seminar, Mr. Mustafy talked about research advancements in the biomechanical modeling of the head-neck-cervical spine. He also discussed bone growth modulation by mechanical loading.

In addition to being a Ph.D. candidate in the Mechanical Engineering Department of École Polytechnique de Montréal, Mr. Tanvir Mustafy is also working as a researcher in the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Sainte-Justine Hospital. He is a member of the Laboratoire De Mécanobiologie Pédiatrique research group at the Polytechnique Montréal. He obtained his M.Sc. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada in 2013. He received his B.Sc. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), in 2011.
