The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of two student teams from Level-3, Term-2 at the prestigious 16th Rice360 Undergraduate Global Health Technologies Design Competition, held on April 24, 2026, in Houston, Texas.
Team AnkleGlide Secures 3rd Place
Team AnkleGlide, comprising Md. Al Maruf Ratul, Kazi Md. Borhanul Islam, Montaha Anowar, and Md. Aamer Intiser Shadman, achieved 3rd place for their innovative healthcare solution aimed at supporting long-term bedridden patients.
Their project, AnkleGlide, is a low-cost, continuous ankle-flexion device designed to help prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and muscle atrophy in ICU patients. The device provides automated dorsiflexion and plantarflexion movements, offering an affordable and practical solution for resource-limited healthcare settings such as Bangladesh.
The team was supervised by Ms. Shams Nafisa Ali and Ms. Tasnia Binte Mamun.
Team BioDrip Wins People’s Choice Award
Another remarkable success came from Team BioDrip, consisting of Rahin Ibne Hasan, Md. Abirul Alam, and Nanziba Islam, who received the prestigious People’s Choice Award for their smart IV therapy management system.
The BioDrip system is designed to automate and optimize intravenous fluid management in accordance with national clinical guidelines. Featuring real-time monitoring capabilities, the system aims to reduce clinical workload while minimizing the risks of dosing errors and contamination, ultimately improving patient safety and healthcare efficiency.
The team was supervised by Md. Tazuddin Ahmed.
These achievements reflect the growing impact of innovative, low-cost biomedical technologies in addressing critical healthcare challenges, particularly in resource-constrained environments.
