Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), the top engineering university in the country, has recently opened a the department of Biomedical Engineering. The first batch of students started taking their classes in February 2016. The department is headed by the renowned researcher in the biomedical signal processing field, Md. Kamrul Hasan, currently a professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), in BUET. Also among faculty members, there are Dr. Tarik Arafat (Ph.D., National University of Singapore, Post-doc, UK), and Dr. Taufiq Hasan (Ph.D., UT Dallas, USA). BME is an independent department within the faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE). The department office and classrooms are located on the 10th floor of the ECE building in West Palashi Campus, Dhaka.
