BME STUDENTS VISITED THE ‘ARTIFICIAL LIMB FITMENT CAMP’ AT NITOR

A group of 30 students of the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), BUET visited the “artificial limb fitment” camp at NITOR (Pongu Hospital) on 12th October 2017. Jaipur foot is holding this camp for two weeks in NITOR. This year the artificial limb fitment camp is helping around 700 amputees to get the artificial limb with free of cost. The event is being sponsored by Moyeen Foundation. Underprivileged Children’s Educational Programs (UCEP) Bangladesh and Apex Footwear Limited are also jointly working at the camp. During the day-long visit, the BME students learned the overall process of limb fitment. We hope that the practical experience at NITOR will help the students design and fit low-cost artificial limbs on their own.

The group of students was accompanied by the BME, BUET faculty members, Dr. Muhammad Tarik Arafat and Mr. Saeedur Rahman. Ms. Sadia Moyeen, the Director of Moyeen foundation, was also present during the visit. The Department of Biomedical Engineering would like to thank the Moyeen Foundation for helping in organizing the student visit.
