Biomedical Engineering Applications to the Study of Gait Control

A technical seminar on “Biomedical Engineering Applications to the Study of Gait Control” will be held from 3.00 – 4.00 pm, Thursday, 26th April 2018 in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, BUET. The talk will be presented by Dr. Rezaul Begg, Chair, Program in Assistive Technologies Innovation (PATI); Professor of Biomechanics, College of Sport & Exercise Science, Victoria University, Australia. Dr. Begg’s main fields of research include Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering, and Machine Learning. Dr. Begg focusses on developing new technologies and techniques with applications to human gait pathologies. These techniques have been utilized to minimize balance-loss and falls which can result from tripping or slipping across a range of populations.

Professor Rezaul Begg received his BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Aberdeen, UK. He is now Chair of the Program in Assistive Technologies Innovation (PATI) at Victoria University, Australia. He leads a research group in Gait and Intelligent Technologies, comprising 7 PhD students, 4 postdoctoral research fellows and 6 senior research personnel. His research interests include Gait and Balance Biomechanics, Exoskeletons, Machine Learning and Wearable Sensors. He has over 250 research publications and 2 patents, and his research is supported by the principal Australian Government Research funding agencies, the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). He has received several awards for academic excellence, including the ICISIP Best paper award, VC’s citation award for excellence in research at Victoria University, the BUET Gold medal and the Chancellor prize.
